Australia started the second day of the third Test in Ranchi on 299/4, seeking to continue their good work of the first day. Captain Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell resumed their partnership of 159.

On the very first ball of day two of the third Test between India and Australia in Ranchi, Maxi broke his bat. Funny thing about it, he wasn’t even trying to hit the ball hard. He just got in a nice classical defensive position behind Umesh Yadav’s ball of the day does the remaining work.

The ball was bowled at 137 km’s but it broke into two pieces as soon as an impact with the ball was made. The ball pitched at length but the bat was in two pieces as soon as it made contact with the ball.

Maxwell was 82 not out overnight. Maxwell’s edge in Jadeja bowling and he departs after a fantastic century. Comeback-man Glenn Maxwell (82 batting) also played his role to perfection with a solid effort, adding 159 runs in 47.4 overs for the fifth wicket.

“He’s shown the world that he can bat in this format as well,” said an Indian commentator of Maxwell.

Australia was 5/332 when Maxwell departed. Maxwell and Smith had put on a series high partnership of 191.
