India’s business capital Mumbai is struggling for breath in waist-deep water, lashed by what weathermen believe could be the worst rain since July 2005, when the city was devastated by floods. Vehicles are half dipped in water and people are finding it difficult to walk on roads.

When it’s Mumbai and rains, local train services are the first ones to get hampered. As expected, railways are paralyzed and tracks are filled with water. People were advised to avoid beaches and promenades, which will impact the ritual immersion of Ganesha idols, an annual event.

Mumbai is facing high rainfall as a result of which many people are stranded. In such times of trouble, Mumbaikars are coming forward to help each other. Hashtags like #MumbaiRains and #RainHosts are trending on Twitter and people are heading out to each other in the time of need.

It is clear that the rains and floods have affected people from every walk of life and tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi and his wife Lara Dutta were not spared either. She wrote, Putting our Wimbledon, US Open, Aus Open &French Open towels to good use!@Maheshbhupathi #MumbaiRain.Stay safe & indoors if possible folks!”

People’s woes were compounded by the high tide that prevented natural drainage of water into the sea. Thousands of vehicles were stranded on arterial roads in Lower Parel, Dadar, Kurla, Andheri, Khar West, Ghatkopar, Sion and Hindmata areas that were under knee to waist deep water for several hours, many having broken down

The government and civic authorities in Maharashtra have sounded high alert with torrential rains lashing Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad and other parts of the state for the fourth consecutive day, severely affecting normal life and paralyzing the lifelines, local train and bus services in the state capital.
