Rising Pune Supergiant rode on fine half-centuries from Manoj Tiwary and Ajinkya Rahane, followed by MS Dhoni’s destructive knock in the first qualifier, but it was the man from Jharkhand who stole the show. RPS is the only team to have defeated the Mumbai Indians twice in this edition of the IPL and made it for the third time to play the finals for the first time.
Before the match, both the captains expected it to be a flat deck with the aggregate score of 450 plus in the previous game. But the central strip of the Wankhede Stadium played slow, the ball didn’t come onto the bat with pace and shot making looked difficult.
MS Dhoni’s destructive batting in the last two overs which helped the Supergiant to add 41 runs to their total and put up a target of 163 for the two-times IPL champions Mumbai Indians. Each and every run which came off Dhoni’s bat was applauded by the crowd.
After MS Dhoni rocked Wankhede stadium with his brilliant 26-ball 40 to lead Rising Pune Supergiant to a healthy total of 162/4 after 20 overs. Twitterati, including few former and currently playing cricketers, hailed the former India captain for his exquisite blitzkrieg.
