In a bizarre incident, a parked car rolled backwards which was parked on a slope in banjara Hills and killed a woman on Wednesday. D Ambika, the victim, an HR professional with a software firm, was on her way to office from the hostel when the incident happened. At the time of the incident, she had her earphone plugged in. This is the major reason that she failed to hear the shoutings of neighbours for her rescue.

The incident occurred at 10.30 am at Srinagar Colony near Banjara Hills. The Chevrolet car, which was parked in front of a second-hand car dealer’s shop rolled on allegedly because of hand-brake failure. Nobody was inside the car at the time of the accident. Ambika’s father is a labourer and the family stays at Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh. Her uncle who lives in the city received the body after post-mortem.

“It was just one month ago that 25-year-old Ambika Bai began working as an HR manager at a software company called Siseero. The office timings are 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m. Ambika’s hostel in Srinagar Colony is just a minute’s walk from my office. Very punctual at work, Ambika told her colleagues that she would be a little late to the office due to some work,” said B. Sudheer, managing director, Siseero.

“The road has a steep slope. The hand-brake was on, but the car rolled backwards due to brake failure” said inspector K Srinivas of Banjara Hills adding that Praveen, a worker of the dealer, had taken out the car and later parked it in front of the shop.

“The car suddenly started moving backwards and hit the victim from behind. She was knocked down and her head slammed against a stationary car in front of her causing grievous injuries. She died on the way to the hospital,” said Banjara Hills police inspector K Srinivas.

“We are still verifying how the brake failed. We need to verify the facts,” said the inspector.

Banjara Hills police have registered a case against Praveen under section 304 A (causing death due to negligence) of Indian Penal Code. He was immediately arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
