Bengaluru-Ernakulam express derails, 3 dead, 60 hurt: Three passengers were killed and over 60 injured, some of them critically, when the Bangalore-Ernakulam Inter City Express derailed near Anekal, about 45 km from Bengaluru.
The Karnataka government rushed several ambulances to the spot and launched rescue operations.
The injured trapped in derailed bogies were being removed and rushed to hospitals in Bengaluru and nearby Hosur, sources said.
While ambulances from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been rushed to the spot, officials are coordinating rescue operations, they said.
A train to rescue the stranded passengers is on its way to the accident site from Tamil Nadu’s Erode.
“We are not still certain about casualties as of now; it should be less than 10,” Divisional Railway Manager (Bangalore) Anil Kumar Agarwal told PTI.
